The official trailer for the 5-part landmark series for Netflix released November 2024.
Southern Ocean Episode – on location

Abraham filming on location at Gold Harbour, South Georgia.
“As the series set out to tell the story of our planet’s five great oceans, this film would focus on the Southern Ocean itself: the most isolated, powerful, and least explored of them all. The ocean’s character (and influence) would be told through the journey of the circumpolar current. But to fully engage the audience, the story of this ocean would need to be told through the eyes of the animals that live there. Our challenge wasn’t necessarily to introduce new species to viewers (though we did highlight fascinating creatures like the Spotted Handfish!) but to showcase extraordinary behaviors that were rarely, if ever, documented.” – Abraham Joffe

A visual masterpiece
“Southern Ocean is a visual masterpiece, and I felt submerged diving in the depths of our blue planet. Cinematic storytelling meets the most beautiful scenes & moments in our nature. I love that so many interesting facts are shared about our ocean, and the narrating keeps you captivated throughout this visual feast. Thanks for creating a milestone worth reviewing over and over again. I’ve been watching wildlife stories since the good old days with Jacques Cousteau and was I was always fascinated with the different facets of the Ocean’s wildlife. This Episode Showcases breathtaking and mesmerising moments we would never been able to see unless Dedicated filmmakers and adventures would open this door to us.”
Outstanding
“The cinematography is breathtaking and what I loved most was the authenticity. The filmmakers didn’t just focus on stunning underwater visuals (although there are plenty of those), but they also shared diverse ecosystems that call our oceans home. Each segment felt like a heartfelt invitation to appreciate and understand the delicate balance of life beneath the waves.”
Action packed with ground breaking stunning visuals
“What an episode, it’s hard to keep up at times with this action packed episode, the sequences are very selective and full of drama keeping you engaged throughout. The Orca sequence at the end is quite mind blowing and must be one of the greatest natural history events ever captured on film. The Spotted Handfish sequence is also something very special and refreshingly new to see. Congrats to all the team involved for making such an incredible program.”
